Jack The Zipper has made many movies on a shoestring of a budget using some of the hottest names in altporn. He’s been coined “The Most Dangerous Director In XXX” has worked with Razordolls, Bob Coulter, Ariel Adore and more of our favorites here at APS like Stoya and Riley Mason. Needless to say when we heard that JTZ is coming out with a new movie FUCK THE WORLD, we had to track him down and ask a few questions….Find out more after you make the jump to the interview >
Hi JTZ thanks for the update on your new film and for giving us a chance to ask you a few questions, we’re fans of your work and we want to take the opportunity to talk to you about alot of things.
* You have a style about your work that differs from that of your contemporaries yet remains part of what seems a bigger idea aesthetically within the realm of altporn or indie pornography, what do you feel is the key element to the difference in your scenes and feature films from others?
JTZ the life i’m living i guess … i’m left handed … i don’t watch too many porno flicks … i keep my projects as minimal as i can … they usually rattle around in my head for a long time before i get to pull the trigger … i shoot, cut, and conceive them myself … i’ve been lucky to work with great performers at key moments in their careers … i find all the props and the wardrobe and the locations … i collaborate with lots of different songwriters from around the world to integrate the soundtracks … i think all the layers of reality add up to be someone’s signature …. especially the accidents
* How long have you been making pictures?
JTZ since 2003 … Stuntgirl was released beginning of 04
* What is the reason you make pornography in a few words?
JTZ porn was the bastard art form … it needed to be picked up and dusted off
* How do you cast the stars that appear in your films? Do you work directly with that, or is there a casting agent? Do you find the models that fit pre-written roles or do you write some roles around the models personality?
JTZ i get impressions of performers from seeing them around … sometimes its only a handful of pictures … i try to stare right through their pictures to see what they’re really all about, and where i can take them in a film … when we actually meet i try to create an environment for them to make some magic … sometimes its a safe environment … sometimes its a dangerous environment … depends on what we’re trying to make
* What was the first porn scene you ever made? (before releasing movies etc)
JTZ i used to hang around with this guy named victor, he was a stone criminal, but he was born a dwarf … a little person … he was a mini new york gangster … one thing led to another and i shot him with these two punk girls i knew and i guess we made a midget porn …
JTZ it went under … i know it was sold to anabolic or somebody but they had know idea what to do with it …
* Tell us about your favorite models to work with and your favorite scene you’ve shot so far
JTZ i love faith, and i love jade starr, i love sasha grey and stoya and roxy deville, and jayme langford and marie luv and audrey hollander and valentina vaughn and hollie stevens and allie sin and riley mason and charlotte stokely and ariel adore … favorite scene that’s tough … one of my all time favorite scenes is allie sin in blacklight beauty because when i met her she was so fed up with porn and L.A. she nearly took my fucking head off … plus she had a 101 degree fever and 13 girls had pissed in her face the day before in some gonzo girl girl bukkake thing and she was desperately homesick and was flying back to florida that night forever .. so her interest in my movie was zero … i asked her why she was even out here in the first place … at first she just looked at me with murder in her eyes … then slowly she opened up and told me how all she had ever wanted to do for the longest time was make cool shit and experiment with being a performer and see the world … i told her that was all i wanted for her too and that i planned the whole shoot around her and only her for months … and no one else could replace her which was absolutely true … i had spent over 9 months making Blacklight and i wasn’t compromising at all because at the time i had finally acquired the authority to do it that way … so after a while sitting there alone at the burgundy room bar talking, we got it together and she gave one of the best performances ever in my opinion …
* If you could put together the ultimate scene of your dreams who would it star and what would happen?
JTZ holy hell thats a tough ass question … thats the kind of question that could give me a tumor man …
* What effect has Directing and Producing pornography had on your life ?
JTZ it’s given me lots of free time … and it’s been my version of film school … lets face it i’ve made something like eleven independent movies by hand in 5 years with micro budgets … try doing that in mainstream
* Fuck The World is a great title, it seems almost so obvious that it was overlooked until now.. Do you think of titles and just go with your initial thought or is there some process to the title selections?
JTZ the title has to survive in my mind for a long time before it gets used … and then it has to fit the time and the place … Fuck the World exactly matches the times in which it was made as far as i’m concerned … to me its a very positive message … and yeah i can’t believe no one ever used it before ….
* The artwork for your films is always really stylized and different, although I do see some similarity in cover designs in porn in general.. do you design the covers or do you have an artist that does that aspect of the design?
JTZ i design them for the most part … but i’ve worked with some groovy designers to execute some of them
* In your own words what is your latest film about ?
JTZ Fuck the World was shot during the california wildfires … and its about letting go of all the programming that society buries us under … the stranglehold … and acting out as if it were the last night of your life … what that really would feel like to know it was the end of days … each of the girls in FTW symbolize different aspects of that equation
* Tell us your favorite “Working with Bob Coulter story” ?
JTZ Besides being a genius … Bob is a total wiseass … the reason his work is so damn rock and roll is because he taunts the girls he shoots like no other … but in the coolest possible way … like a demonic psychiatrist … digging out all that deep down personality … disarming them … he shot with me on FTW and Faith, Bob, and i went to the ocean to Point Doom hours after the fires to shoot a sequence with Faith alone on the cliffs … to get to the cliffs you had to wade waist deep through the breakers and he had about 10 grand worth of equipment balanced on his head, bitching and complaining, with his crazy hair flying in the wind … the famous white leather shoes got trashed … typical new yorker … i enjoyed that day alot
* Ariel Adore ( we love her ) funny story? hot scene? plug your last flick with her..
JTZ I call her ‘the Hayseed’ … she stayed with me for a while when we made LIVE NEW GIRLS and ENTER THE PEEPSHOW (both not out yet) … my girlfriend and i have adopted her and we truly love her West Virginia ass … she’s the sparkplug in both those movies too and at this early stage is one of the most underrated new stars in the business …
* FTW is set to be released in Sept. 2009 .. anything in the works now to be released in the future? hints on your next XXX flick?
JTZ LIVE NEW GIRLS is october i think, and ENTER THE PEEPSHOW is february … as we speak i’m making an all girl movie called XERO with a wonderful band from Germany named Rockford Kabine … its sort of an homage to 70′s Tokyo grindhouse flicks like Sasori Scorpion and Lone Wolf at the River Styx … should be out as a collector’s edition with a vinyl soundtrack album by XMAS ….
